History of Poirier

First we'd like to make note, our company name is simply Poirier.  We are not Poirier Couture.  Unfortunately, someone beat us to the domain name, so we had to take what we could.

The name Poirier is a French name meaning
‘One who lives by the pear tree’
or ‘One who grows and sells pears.” The logo is inspired
by the Poirier family crests, nearly all of which utilize the image
of the pear, usually in groupings of three.

Couture (officially Haute Couture)
is a title that has lost much of the weight and respect
it commanded when first used in the fashion
industry. Used to describe clothing that was custom made and
fitted for a specific customer, it has now come to be
used - incorrectly - for anything high fashion. Even high-fashion
garments, however, may truthfully fall into the category of “prêt-à-
porter,” French for ready-to-wear. True couturiers who
create legitimate haute couture pieces are certified by the
Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Paris. The term haute
couture is actually protected and the right to use it is granted only
once meeting the highest standards set forth by the Chambre. It is
the goal of Poirier to maintain the value and prestige of the terms
“couture,” “haute couture,” and “couturier” by making clear
that Poirier is not a certified couturier, though holds itself to those
standards and will strive to become certified as such.

True, we are not yet a certified “Couturier,” but the intent of the
website’s address is not to deceive, but to inspire. To inspire
everyone involved with Poirier to work toward the goal of earning
the title and truly deserving it. The title of Couturier is a highly
honored and respected title that is not earned easily and Poirier is
built to do everything to ensure
the title is deserved.
